    Blackheath Westcombe news Autumn 2007
Westcombe Park Station•Nick Raynsford MP and Labour councillors are urging South-eastern Railway to allow works to be completed around West-combe Park station. Although the land is railway-owned, the council has found funds to improve lighting and fencing. But work has been held up for over a year by railway red tape. A meeting between Nick, the railways and the council is now being arranged. But at Blackheath station, work to install a disabled lift - long demanded by passengers and Labour councillors - should start this autumn.

•Several council housing blocks are to get better security with entryphones. Blocks on Brook Lane, and Bletchley House on Mycenae Road, will get entryphones this financial year. Paine Court and blocks on the Pond Road estate will get them next year.

•Greenwich Council has started a review of policies affecting small businesses, partly prompted by concerns over rent rises at the council-owned shops on Old Dover Road. The proposed rises have since been scaled back and talks with traders are continuing.

The review is led by local Labour councillor Alex Grant. Last year Alex invited local Tory councillors to a meeting with traders and the Westcombe Society to discuss the Old Dover Road rents. The Tories replied that they had no interest in attending.

•Planning permission has been granted for a new school on the Peninsula, intended as a new site for John Roan. Agreement is being sought to close the nearby gasholder before the school opens in 2010. •Transport for London finally seem to be doing something about speeding traffic on Shooter's Hill Road. A mobile unit caught some speeders in August, and TFL say a more permanent "speed indicator device" (a sign which flashes `30' at cars that exceed that speed) wlll be put in this autumn.

Resurfacing of the A2 across the Heath is due next summer.
