Labour Councillors have written to Mayor Boris Johnson urging
him to ensure that the road works on the A2 are completed on
time.
This is after they informed by Transport for London (TfL) that it
could take longer than the eight weeks local residents were
originally told they would take to complete.
Since the roadworks began, Labour councillors have demanded that
TfL improves traffic management to reduce congestion, and introduce
longer working hours to minimise disruption to residents.
West Greenwich Labour Councillor David Grant said: "Work should
take place every day between 6am and 10pm but we have observed that
this is not the case.
"We have therefore written to the Mayor, who is also Chair of
Transport for London who maintain the road, urging him to do
everything possible to ensure the work is completed within eight
weeks. We've also reiterated that the work must take place
throughout each and every day."
The A2 roadworks had been due to take place between August and
September 2008, which would
have caused much less disruption because of the school
holidays.
But after Boris Johnson became Mayor they were postponed for six
months.
We will continue to keep a close eye on the works and update you on
this site.
