Woolwich is back on Crossrail map
Crossrail—the new rail line linking Heathrow Airport with Kent and Essex—will now be stopping at Woolwich following a successful Labour campaign. At first, the new railway line was planned to go in a tunnel under Woolwich town centre without stopping here. A Crossrail station could open on the Royal Arsenal by 2016, with trains to Canary Wharf taking just eight minutes. The new Docklands Light Railway station in Woolwich is even more advanced, with construction in full swing and the new link to the Royal Docks due to open in January
2009.Elsewhere in Woolwich, construction of the new service centre and library on Wellington Street is about to start. This is all part of Labour’s £800m investment in public services in Greenwich—the biggest such investment for a century.Labour councillors in Glyndon ward are committed to building a sustainable community, where all can benefit from this regeneration. regardless of race or
