Greenwich’s Labour council has recently voted to give £1 million
towards a new borough-wide police team to help combat youth and
knife crime.
The money, matched by £1.5 million from the Metropolitan Police,
was agreed in response to residents’ fear of youth and knife crime
and anti-social behaviour. This unit has already begun
work and in the last few weeks it has seen five violent offenders
jailed for over 33 years.
Both
this extra money to tackle youth crime in the borough and the
introduction of the 5-officer local policing team in Blackheath
Westcombe ward were opposed by Greenwich's
Conservatives.
It
was only lobbying from local Labour councillors that ensured that
this local policing team started in our community in 2006 — a year
earlier than planned - and this investment
is already paying off.
The number of burglaries have fallen by over 15% in our area
over the last year with robbery falling by over 10%.

Just remember, in an emergency, always call 999.
